How Ledger Hardware Wallets Connect
to Merchant Checkout Systems

A Ledger hardware wallet connects to a merchant's checkout through the Ledger Live application or through direct browser communication via USB or Bluetooth. The connection flow differs from software wallets because the private key never leaves the physical device. When the checkout generates a payment request, the transaction details are sent to the Ledger device, where the customer reviews the amount, the destination address, the token, and the network on the device's built-in screen before physically pressing a button to authorize the payment.

27 Blockchain builds this hardware wallet connection into the merchant's checkout so the process is handled within the existing payment flow. The Ledger wallet integration service covers the device communication protocol, the transaction signing handoff, blockchain confirmation monitoring, and the settlement layer that records completed payments. The merchant's system receives confirmation once the blockchain validates the signed transaction, and the order proceeds.
